The Chicago Cubs could trade Willson Contreras to the San Francisco Giants

The National League Wildcard race is going to come down to the wire, based on current standings. The San Francisco Giants sit 5th in the Wildcard race right now, but are only a half game behind both the Philadelphia Phillies and St. Louis Cardinals. One of the moves that could provide them the right boost down the stretch is acquiring Contreras, and to do so, the Giants could offer the Cubs a package such as this one.

First, the Cubs would get the Giants’ number 10 overall prospect in shortstop Aeverson Arteaga. A 19-year-old with an average bat, Arteaga projects as a future starting shortstop in the Majors. He is best known for his defensive prowess, having quick twitch reacting ability and a lightning-fast arm.

Arteaga also gives the Cubs some speed, with the potential to steal a couple of dozen bases over a full season.

Second, the Cubs land the Giants’ no. 18 prospect in catcher Adrian Sugastey. The 19-year-old doe not provide a whole lot of power, so his home run upside isn’t enormous. But, he does get a lot of contact which would lead to more value in overall on-base percentage.
