Trade Number 2: The Chicago Cubs include three top-5 prospects in a deal to land Juan Soto

If the Cubs wanted to mix things up a bit, and the Nationals desired a little more than the previous deal, then they could get even more bold. To start with in this deal, the Cubs once again give up both Happ and Hernandez. But, they add in a couple more top-5 prospects in the process.

After Hernandez, the Cubs would also give up their number four overall prospect in outfielder Kevin Alcantara. The 19-year-old is one of the most raw, talented prospects the Cubs have seen in a while.

He’s a towering 6-foot-6 with excellent bat speed and the potential to be a kid who just rakes at the professional level. In 77 games with Myrtle Beach this year, Alcantara has posted a line of .267/.361/.462 with a whopping 14 doubles, five triples, 11 home runs, 60 RBI and 10 stolen bases. Chicago can thank the Anthony Rizzo trade last year for landing them Alcantara.

Happ, Hernandez and Alcantara are one heck of a trio to start out this deal, but it gets better for Washington. They also get the Cubs’ number five prospect James Triantos, a 19-year-old infielder with a high baseball IQ and strong bat.

Chicago also gives up their number 22 prospect, pitcher Drew Gray, in this deal.
