With just a couple of weeks before the MLB trade deadline, the Chicago Cubs are one team to watch as a sure-fire seller.

As most will tell you, Jed Hoyer and the gang are nowhere near a buying mentality and haven’t been for a while now. Last year, we saw the team trade away three of the biggest stars, all from their World Series run. Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo and Javier Baez were all shipped off a year ago, which continued the trend of moving on from that championship team.

This year should be no different, as the Cubs will likely explore deals for All Stars Willson Contreras and Ian Happ. However, there is one long shot of a buy that the Cubs could entertain.

Washington Nationals star outfielder Juan Soto is the biggest name to watch as the deadline nears, and the Cubs have at least been mentioned in the group of clubs to keep an eye on.

For a team like the Chicago Cubs focused more on the future, acquiring a star like Juan Soto makes some sense.

Soto recently rejected a 14-year contract extension with the Washington Nationals worth $440 million, which caused the stove to erupt with heat. Washington will now look to try and trade Soto, and will be searching for a massive return.

The Cubs are a team that could definitely afford a big-time contract, but would they be willing to give up that type of haul?

Jon Heyman thinks the odds of the Cubs landing Soto are slim, but with him throwing the club into the mix at least makes things interesting.

What exactly would it take for the Cubs to land Soto? They’d have to go big, so one of these trades could possibly get the Nationals thinking.
