The Chicago Cubs are rebuilding right now so you know that they had the 2022 MLB Draft circled on their calendar. This is one of the best ways for each team in the league to make their future just a little bit brighter.

The Cubs made two selections over the first two rounds and they came at 7 and 47. They knew that each one was important but getting that top-ten pick from being so bad in 2021 is going to be huge for them in the future. They knew they wanted to nail it.

It seems like they might have as they drafted Cade Horton out of Oklahoma with the pick. He is a right-handed pitcher that is hoping to develop into a very good MLB pitcher. He has all of the tools that can allow him to do so.

Horton’s Oklahoma squad had an outstanding season in 2022. They reached the final series against Ole Miss but were defeated two games to none. It was certainly a heartbreaker but all of them had a great experience by making it all the way until the end.

The Chicago Cubs went pitching heavy with their first two selections at the draft.

In the second round of day one, the Cubs selected Jackson Ferris of IMG Academy in Florida. He is also a pitcher but he comes from the left side of the mound. He is committed to that National Champion Ole Miss team but it seems like he is going to sign with the Cubs instead.

One thing is very clear about the strategy here. The Chicago Cubs went pitching heavy. They haven’t been awesome at developing pitching over the last decade or so but they are going to try and turn the tide with these picks. They are talented enough to make it work.

Horton was at Oklahoma which is one of the best baseball schools on the planet and Ferris was getting ready to attend Ole Miss which defeated Oklahoma in the championship. Each of them clearly has a winning pedigree which is something that the Cubs need badly.

It will be a while before we see these guys in Major League Baseball but it might not be that long before we start seeing them make an impact in the minors. There are good pitchers on this farm and now two more are joining them.
