3 burning questions that Chicago Bears training camp must answer
By Ryan Heckman
Will the Chicago Bears defense dominate training camp as usual?
For years now, fans have been accustomed to the defense dominating training camp. It’s been the same story, year in and year out. Every summer, we start out camp wondering if the offense will look different, and every summer, we’re typically left with more questions at the tail end of camp than when it began.
Chicago beat reporters and media are notoriously negative, but for good reason. The Bears offense has historically been bad, and for the majority of the last few decades. It’s what we’re used to, so it’s very easy to continue riding that train.
This year, though, the Bears no longer have guys like Khalil Mack, Akiem Hicks or Eddie Goldman. The defense is going to look much different, and make no mistake, they could be a very good unit even without those veterans.
But, fans desperately want to see Fields and the offense make some plays and dominate days of practice. If they don’t, it’s going to be extremely easy to overreact to what we see and read from those who are watching every snap of practice.
Let’s say the defense does dominate most days, per usual. Will we overreact? Or could this defensive unit actually be very good?
