Will Chicago Bears tight end Cole Kmet take the third-year leap?

Last season, Cole Kmet saw more than double the targets he had as a rookie (93 versus 44). Going into year three, Kmet absolutely must make another jump.

George Kittle made the leap in his second year and was just a fifth-round pick. Travis Kelce really came on during his second year, and more so in his third year, and he was a third rounder. Mark Andrews, another third rounder, made a big leap in his second year.

All of this was said to say that this is the year Kmet needs to break out. Whether or not everything in this offense is perfect, Kmet has to show he can make the big catches, become a better blocker and contribute in the red zone. This is it. If Kmet doesn’t come out and establish himself in camp, then he’ll have a hard time doing so during the season.

Fans want to see Kmet take a big leap. The Bears spent a second-round pick for a reason, and already had a sour taste in their mouth after the Adam Shaheen experiment — also a second-round pick.

Training camp is the place where it starts for Kmet, establishing himself as one of the top options in the passing game. He’s received some hype, specifically in the fantasy community, but we need to see it.
