Is the Chicago Bears wide receiving core good enough to get the job done?

Maybe the biggest question, offensively, is whether or not the Bears have the talent at wide receiver to score some points. Poles did not add talent via quality, but more so quantity. Clearly, the strategy was to create competition between the guys fighting for the spots four through six or seven.

Darnell Mooney could be good enough to be the number one, but isn’t getting the love that he should be. Last year, Mooney caught 81 passes for 1,055 yards and four scores while catching passes from three different quarterbacks.

But, the number two is presumably Byron Pringle at this moment, and he doesn’t even have a total of 1,000 career receiving yards. If we’re looking at the number three, it’ll be either rookie Velus Jones Jr. or veteran free agent signing Equanimeous St. Brown. Obviously, Jones has never played an NFL snap and St. Brown has 543 career receiving yards in four years.

Maybe Dante Pettis or Tajae Sharpe surprise us. But, the odds are definitely stacked against this group as a whole. Newly-signed David Moore was recently arrested, so his future is in doubt. The Bears do not have a deep receiving group, and that is why there are so many concerned about whether Justin Fields has enough weapons.

Who will emerge? Will anyone other than Mooney make a serious impact in camp? The Bears have to have someone ball out and become a legitimate number two option, but there’s no guarantee that actually happens.
