The Chicago Bears wide receiver group is going to be the most intense training camp battle

As most would have predicted, all eyes will be on the wide receiver group over just about every other position battle. This is where touchdowns are going to be scored, points put on the board and hopefully, Justin Fields’ development takes a big step. The wide receiver group has much to prove, and there are a lot of players battling for roster spots.

Darnell Mooney, Byron Pringle and Velus Jones Jr. are the sure things right now. There is zero chance that any of them do not make it through training camp at this point. But, beyond those guys, anyone’s guess is as good as the next.

Poles brought in Equanimeous St. Brown as one of his very first free agency signings, and he possesses the only real, big frame amongst the group at 6-foot-5. If St. Brown shows off in camp, he’ll be utilized.

Beyond St. Brown, the Bears signed veterans Dante Pettis and Tajae Sharpe, each with their own strengths. Pettis has a lot of speed, and is a very underrated deep threat. Pettis’ draft pedigree still precedes him, and if he’s ever to live up to that second-round billing, this might be his last chance.

Then, there’s last year’s rookie Dazz Newsome, who rarely played in 2021. Being a Ryan Pace guy might mean he doesn’t get a real chance in Chicago, but we’ll see what the second-year pro can do during camp.
