How the Chicago Bears linebacker group shakes out in training camp is anyone’s guess

The linebacker position is quietly still somewhat of a concern for the Bears. It’s not as worrisome when you have a guy like Roquan Smith who evens out the talent there. But, the Bears still need to put two capable starters beside Smith, and they might not even have one.

The big “if” in this group is health and availability. Nicholas Morrow came over from the Las Vegas Raiders as a guy who should end up starting no problem, and he can play either inside or outside. Morrow has plenty of speed and started to really make a name for himself during his last few games with the Raiders. But, a foot injury suffered in training camp kept him out all last season.

Now healthy, Morrow is ready to pick up where he left off. If he’s healthy, he should be a fine starter next to Smith.

The other supposed starter, Matthew Adams, was recently arrested and there has not been a punishment handed out just yet. So, we’ll see what happens there. Adams was a special teams standout in Indianapolis under Eberflus, but this arrest puts a damper on his situation.

Behind those three, the Bears don’t have a ton of talent. Maybe the best player behind those guys is Caleb Johnson, who was undrafted out of Houston Baptist before joining Chicago last year.

There are a ton of unproven players beyond those four, though, and the remaining roster spots are truly up for grabs. Fans will be watching a battle between players like Jack Sanborn, Joe Thomas, Noah Dawkins, Christian Albright and C.J. Avery.
