Chicago Bears running back Darrynton Evans could be cut by the end of training camp

Before the 2022 NFL Draft, veteran running back Darrynton Evans could have been looked at as fairly safe. He came on as the supposed third running back this offseason behind David Montgomery and second-year pro Khalil Herbert.

As a pretty high selection in the 2020 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans, Evans looked like a guy who would end up being a fine pairing alongside workhorse Derrick Henry. The third rounder out of Appalachian State was let go after just two years with the Titans, though, and claimed by the Bears.

Evans was a third-round pick for a reason. His final year in college saw him run for nearly 1,500 yards and 18 touchdowns. But, his future is once again in doubt after the Bears drafted Baylor running back and return specialist Trestan Ebner.

The Bears seem very high on Ebner and his skill set, especially after they lost All Pro return man Jakeem Grant to free agency. Ebner likely isn’t going anywhere, and unless the Bears are planning on carrying four running backs, then Evans is certainly in danger. He is a guy who could be playing for his next job during the Bears’ final preseason game, as a potential cut.
