The Chicago Blackhawks need to be smart in the later rounds of the draft.

The Chicago Blackhawks don’t have a pick in the fourth or fifth round of the 2022 NHL Draft. They traded the fourth-round pick in the blockbuster Brandon Hagel trade made between them and Tampa Bay Lightning.

The fifth-round pick went to Vegas as a part of that three-way trade between the Golden Knights and Sharks. The Blackhawks did get an extra third in this draft for that fifth so it will turn out to be good for them. The rest of the draft for them (unless there is a trade) will be in the sixth and seventh rounds.

Round 6 – Pick 167 – Aiden Castle

The Chicago Blackhawks might want a forward that can learn to score lots of goals at the NHL level. Aiden Castle is someone that can be one of those late-round steals. In the OHL, he has proven that he can score a lot and it is making his playmaking better.

Round 6 – Pick 173 – Kent Anderson

This pick came back to Chicago in the Seth Jones trade with the Columbus Blue Jackets. Kent Anderson is a defenseman to take a chance on with a pick this late because he could be a good puck mover with a lot more development.

Round 7 – Pick 199 – Tyler Duke

Tyler Duke is an American kid that could fall to this point in the draft as a defenseman. He had some success in the offensive zone with various US programs this year and could eventually become an NHL player with a lot of hard work.

Hopefully, regardless of what happens in this draft, the Hawks are able to get the rebuild going the right way with this class. Trading DeBrincat to New Jersey is a good idea for them as they try to accelerate this. Landing some of these awesome prospects would really push them forward.

The Blackhawks should consider drafting Jack Hughes. light. Related Story
