3 Willson Contreras trade packages with New York Yankees

Willson Contreras, although unlikely, could be a part of a one-for-one deal.

In a perfect world, the Chicago Cubs get at least two pieces back for Willson Contreras. There might even be a few instances where they get more than two but that will depend on the market going forward.

There are, however, a few one-for-one deals that could be made across the league when it comes to Willson Contreras. One that might be worth considering is Austin Wells of the New York Yankees organization.

Wells is currently the number four prospect in New York’s system. He is also a catcher that can become the long-term replacement of a guy like Contreras if all went well with his development going forward.

Wells was drafted in the first rud by the New York Yankees in 2020 and currently plays in A. It will be a long time before he reaches Major League Baseball but he is sure to get his chance one day. He is currently the 10th highest-rated catching prospect according to MLB dot com.

If the Cubs could land a player like that from New York, they might be wise even if he is the only thing they give up. Each team would be getting what they need here as the Cubs would get a potential future catcher and the Yankees would be getting a current one that is already a star.

If anything, it would be cool to see Contreras play in the playoffs again. That guy is obsessed with winning and he hasn’t done a whole lot of that in recent years with the Cubs. These are definitely trades for both sides to consider as they are each in different spaces right now.
