The Chicago Cubs can ask for a fair amount in return for Willson Contreras.

A team like the New York Yankees can afford (money-wise) to do whatever they want. They have shown that in the past. However, in recent years, they have been better at trying to build their team while being smart with their money instead of throwing it irresponsibly.

Trading two prospects and a pretty good catcher away for a superstar catcher might be a great way for them to do that. A trade like this would be extra nice if they were able to extend Willson Contreras after the season is over before he hits the open market.

Trey Sweeney is the Yankees’ number six prospect. He is a shortstop that they drafted in the first round of the 2021 MLB Draft out of Eastern Illinois. That would be like a nice little coming home party for him if he came to a Chicago team. Beck way is their number 21 prospect and is a right-handed pitcher playing in high-A.

The Cubs could ask for Kyle Higashioka in return as well as they need someone to be Contreras’s replacement catcher until they develop one in the long term. With Contreras coming to town, the Yankees wouldn’t need him as much anymore as Trevino can take the job full time.
