The Chicago Cubs could land some really nice prospects for Willson Contreras.

The Chicago Cubs need some depth in their organization. Right now, they have one of the five worst records in Major League Baseball. In order to climb out of that, they need to rebuild. Whether Jed Hoyer wants to call it that or not is on him but that is what they are doing.

Getting top prospects for Willson Contreras would be smarter for the Cubs than keeping him and potentially losing him for nothing. It might even be better than signing him for a lot of money on a long-term deal. Ask yourself, will the Cubs be good again when he is still good?

Brett Baty is a really nice prospect. He is currently listed (behind Francisco Alvarez) as the New York Mets’ number two prospect. He is also currently the number 22 prospect in all of baseball. He is someone who can play third base or the outfield and is in AA for the time being.

Mark Vientos is currently New York’s number five prospect. He is considered to be someone that can play more than two positions including third, first, and the outfield. He is in AAA and could be a Major League Baseball player at any time now. Two players like this for Contreras would be smart to think about for the Cubs.
