3. This is the type of move a championship team makes

Lastly, it is pretty simple: this is the type of move a team with championship aspirations would make. The Bulls have the foundation. They have scorers in LaVine and DeRozan. They have a facilitator and catalyst to their offense in Ball.

What Vucevic has lacked in energy and a true defensive, post presence, is exactly what Gobert will bring to the Bulls.

Some might say that executing a deal including Vucevic for Gobert would be admitting failure on the part of Arturas Karnisovas, who dealt for Vucevic in his first major move with Chicago. But, that would be wrong. What the Bulls would be doing here is making an upgrade; doing everything they can to improve their roster within their means.

Each year, a championship-caliber team makes moves to continue towards that goal of winning a title. If the Bulls stayed stagnant, and relied on “continuity” to get them to the next level, that might not be enough.

Going out and getting Gobert would mean that the Bulls are dead set on winning a title and winning it soon, period.
