1. Rudy Gobert immediately makes the Chicago Bulls a defensive juggernaut

Last season, the Bulls started out relatively hot on the defensive side of the ball. They guarded the perimeter better than just about any other team in the league, and found themselves inside the top five of three-point percentage given up over the first few weeks.

As the season went on, though, Chicago didn’t see the same success. Much of that had to do with Lonzo Ball’s exit, along with Alex Caruso’s injuries. Once those two suffered injuries, the Bulls were a different team, defensively. Chicago did not have anyone capable enough to fill the shoes of either Ball or Caruso.

With those two on the floor, though, the Bulls are a great defensive team full of energy. Ball and Caruso’s defense lead to fast break points, where the Bulls were excellent last year — assuming they had the opportunities. If you were to add in a guy who absolutely dominates on that end, in the paint, the Bulls would be an extremely difficult team to score on from all aspects.

Nikola Vucevic is an average rim protector and a good rebounder, but Gobert is the league’s best. Being able to have someone who is willing to stand in the paint against the likes of Giannis Antetokounmpo could help the Bulls truly compete in the Eastern Conference
