96. player. 48. . DL. Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Akiem Hicks

Akiem Hicks is one of the best Chicago Bears players in the last twenty seasons.

The Chicago Bears were blessed to have Khalil Mack for as long as they did. It didn’t feel very long but they got a lot out of him as he was elite for a while there. He was made to be even better because of the play of DL Akiem Hicks.

Mack was considered to be the best player on the team but Hicks had a similar impact every single week. He also allowed Mack to be slightly freer when rushing the passer. We saw that in full effect when Hicks would be out with an injury.

The unfortunate part is that Hicks did seem to battle injuries a little too often. That is why it was smart to let him go. The Bears don’t need to be paying an aging veteran to be hurt more than healthy right now. If they were a contender, this would be a different story.

It is also nice knowing that he is going to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. We get to know that one of the best players the Bears have had in the last 20 years has a chance to win a championship with Tom Brady’s squad. Letting him go is beneficial to both sides.

All of these guys will be remembered for being good players during what was a dark time in Bears’ history. Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy did nothing to help them lead this team to postseason success. Hopefully, their careers continue to flourish.
