Center JC Tretter would start right now for the Chicago Bears

The Bears still don’t have five concrete starters on their offensive line. At the moment, it appears Lucas Patrick will be their center, with Sam Mustipher and Cody Whitehair at guard. However, bringing in JC Tretter could allow some flexibility up front and give the Bears one of the most underrated interior linemen in the game.

Over his last five seasons in Cleveland, Tretter has played in16 games in each one, and 100 percent of the offensive snaps. As they say, the best ability is availability, and Tretter has it.

One of the more impressive facts about Tretter is that in those 80 games for the Browns, he was whistled for just 12 penalties and never more than four in a season. Offensive line penalties have been a killer for the Bears in recent years, so having a guy who rarely commits them would be a welcomed sight.

For a team wanting to protect their young quarterback, too, Tretter is one of the best guys there is at the position. In five seasons with the Browns, he allowed just six sacks, and never more than two in an entire season. Signing Tretter would mean the Bears were one step closer to a starting five up front, and truly believe in protecting Justin Fields.
