3 Chicago Blackhawks defensemen to consider trading away
The Chicago Blackhawks might consider trading any RFA’s that they have.
The Chicago Blackhawks acquired Caleb Jones from the Edmonton Oilers in the Duncan Keith trade. Of course, he is the brother of Seth Jones as both brothers wore the same NHL sweater in 2021-22. Unfortunately, the Blackhawks might be wise to move on from Caleb.
Unlike his brother Seth, he hasn’t become a superstar in the NHL. Seth Jones will make 9.5 million dollars for the next eight years. That is a contract that is going to haunt the Blackhawks for a long time but that is a conversation for another day.
Caleb is a restricted free agent. The Blackhawks could trade his rights to another team so that they can negotiate with them on a contract extension. He is not the type of player that a team builds around. If the Hawks were better, they would try to keep him but they are going to be very bad.
The Blackhawks have a lot of moves that they need to make before they are a contender again. Fixing the defense in the long term is something that is very important. These guys are all good and can help a winning team right now but the Hawks are anything but.
It would be smarter to start letting others get more ice and develop. If the Blackhawks play this summer the right way, they could really kick off a nice little rebuild. The trade assets are there but they just have to use them right.
