3 Chicago Blackhawks defensemen to consider trading away
The Chicago Blackhawks are one of the teams in the National Hockey League that needs to rebuild and they haven’t even fully started yet. The assets they acquired at the 2022 NHL Trade Deadline are really nice but there is more to accomplish.
In order to rebuild properly, they need to tear it down and build it back up. That starts with some of the veterans on the roster that are going to be gone by the time they are ready to win again. Most of their veteran defensemen fit that bill and might have a lot of value on the trade market.
It is very hard to rebuild but it is even harder to win when you just keep trying to cover up weaknesses. Trading some of these defensemen might help Chicago get assets that can help them build back up. These three defensemen are worth shopping right now:
The Chicago Blackhawks might be able to get something nice for Connor Murphy.
The Chicago Blackhawks acquired Connor Murphy a few years ago in the Niklas Hjalmarsson trade with the Arizona Coyotes. It was a bad trade for Chicago. It wasn’t a bad trade because Murphy is bad. In fact, he is very good.
It is a bad trade because of the fact that Hjalmarsson was better at the time of the trade and that is when the Blackhawks had a roster good enough to compete. Now that Murphy is developed into a good defenseman, the rest of the team is horrible.
He does get hit by the injury bug somewhat often which is a risk for a team acquiring him but any contender would be smart to add a defenseman like this. He is also locked in for a long time as he has a cap hit of 4.4 million for the next four years. He is way more than a rental for someone.
