The Chicago Bulls could trade guard Coby White

Three years ago, the Bulls made Coby White the seventh overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, selecting him out of North Carolina. While a lot of fans wanted him and were thrilled with the selection, three seasons have come and gone and it remains to be seen if the Bulls got their money’s worth.

On the surface, White has improved in certain areas every year. But, when you dive deeper, he started from a fairly low bar.

In his first season, White shot just 39 percent from the floor and just over 35 percent from three. This past season, White finished shooting over 43 percent from the field and over 38 percent from deep. That qualifies as improvement, but as a lottery pick, White has not lived up to the billing.

Last year, White’s defensive rating was the worst of his career (117 per Basketball Reference). In the playoffs, he was non-existent. In fact, he hurt the Bulls in a big way when he was on the court.

The Bulls got more out of second-round rookie Ayo Dosunmu all of last season than they did with White — and specifically  on the defensive side. This offseason, White should be thrown out there in trade discussions, at the very least. If the Bulls can deal him, and upgrade via free agency or the draft, then they should.
