Small forward Trevor Keels is a dark horse draft candidate for the Chicago Bulls

This summer, the Bulls will see both Derrick Jones Jr. and Troy Brown Jr. become free agents. Chicago needs to make a decision on whether to bring either one back. If they plan to forego both of them, one possible replacement at the three could be Duke forward Trevor Keels.

The 6-foot-5 forward comes into this year’s draft as a late-first round prospect. Early on last season, Keels had a lot of folks thinking he’d be picked in the top-15. But, inconsistencies have landed him at no. 28 overall in ESPN’s best available.

One of the things the Bulls lacked when Lonzo Ball and Alex Caruso were out of the lineup is perimeter defense, and that’s something Keels can potentially offer. He showed a lot of tenacity at some points last year, and looked like one of the draft’s best overall defenders.

But, at other times, he was inconsistent. He did not always display the ability to be a great defender. It’s his lack of consistency that will drop him down draft boards.

If Keels can develop into an excellent defender, his jump shot allows him to be a valuable two-way player for the Bulls.
