Christopher Morel provided a big time Chicago Cubs moment
This hasn’t been the best season for the Chicago Cubs. They are well under .500 with little hope of competing in the National League Central. However, they have some players there making it a fascinating season despite all the losing.
On Wednesday night, they found themselves in extra innings at home against the first-place Milwaukee Brewers. There are a lot of reasons to believe that the Brew Crew would be able to pull out the win in that situation but they didn’t.
The Cubs won the game thanks to some heroics from Christopher Morel. The kid came to bat with one out. Jason Heyward was on third base ready to be the game-winning run-scorer. All they needed from Morel was some hard contact out of the infield.
As he was stepping into the box, Willson Contreras (who was on deck) made sure to calm Morel down and have him take a deep breath. That was just enough for him as he hit one high and deep to left field.
Christopher Morel gave the Chicago Cubs a win in the bottom of the 10th.
Christian Yelich made the catch but was unable to get Heyward at home. The Cubs walked off the Brewers thanks to the clutch at-bat from Christian Morel. It has been an outstanding start to his career and you can add this to the highlights.
He now has a slash line of .268/.373/.464 for an OPS of .837. That is excellent. He also has two home runs, 6 RBI, and 10 runs scored. The start to his Major League career has been brilliant and exciting for him along with fans of the Cubs. He seems to be a fan favorite already.
He didn’t come into this season thinking that he would be a star for at least some of it. He earned his call-up and has been a very nice performer with the opportunity. Now, the Cubs are getting some wins because of it.
Getting a couple of wins against this Brewers team has to feel good for the Cubs. Now, they have a very exciting weekend series with their number one rival in the St. Louis Cardinals. It is going to be a five-game set with them at Wrigley Field.
With exciting players like Morel on the team now, this could be a very entertaining series. This walk-off win against the Brewers showed just how electric this kid can be when things are going well for him.
