Patrick Kane could be swapped for another scoring winger just to change things.

The Chicago Blackhawks and Toronto Maple Leafs each have an elite scoring winger that drives offense like a centerman. The only difference is that Patrick Kane is in his 30s with one year left on his deal and Mitch Marner is in his 20s with lots of years left in his deal.

They would pretty much cancel each other out in terms of salary cap but the term is a lot different for both. The reason the Leafs might consider a trade like this is because of the fact that they need to just change it up somehow. What they have hasn’t been working.

Mitch Marner is more valuable right now than Patrick Kane. Marner could only wish to have the career that Kane has had but he could provide more to the Blackhawks in the long term. The Leafs are going for the Cup now and Kane might be better off in that quest.

Sending the Leafs the second-round pick that they got from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for Marc-Andre Fleury would be a small price to pay for a deal like this. Kane’s playoff experience might outweigh Marner’s term if you’re trying to win it all in 2022-23. However, Marner coming to the Hawks would give them just another great piece to build around.
