Bold predictions for the Chicago Bears running backs in 2022

Knowing that Getsy is going to run a Shanahan type of offense, we can assume that they will be run-heavy. Predicting a 4,000-yard passing season for Fields might seem like a gigantic prediction, but in reality, that’s only a “pretty good” year for the average NFL quarterback.

With that said, the Bears will be using a two-headed monster in their backfield in David Montgomery and Khalil Herbert. Last season, the two of them combined for 1,282 yards in a Nagy offense that was, in a word, mind-numbingly bad. The scheme was bad. The blocking scheme was bad. It was all just plain bad.

Now, with a Shanahan style and running zone (which Montgomery and Herbert are great at), we can hope for a jump. How big of a jump? Let’s say the two of them combine for more than 500 additional yards than they did a year ago.

Predictions for 2022:

David Montgomery
1,258 rushing yards (74 yards per game)

11 rushing touchdowns

30 receptions

215 receiving yards

Khalil Herbert

544 rushing yards (32 yards per game)

4 rushing touchdowns

38 receptions

285 receiving yards

1 receiving touchdown
