The New Jersey Devils could swing a huge trade with the Chicago Blackhawks.

The Chicago Blackhawks and New Jersey Devils swinging a first-round pick trade would be considered a blockbuster. That is because of the fact that New Jersey holds the second overall pick and there are some really good players available in that spot.

If the Devils are going to move that pick, they are going to want a big-time return. Alex DeBrincat only has one year left on his deal so they would need to get him extended right away but he would be a perfect fit on that team. Centerman like Nico Hischier and Jack Hughes would love a crack at a 40-goal scorer like that.

Although that second overall pick is basically NHL gold in terms of value, Alex DeBrincat is one of the best goal scorers in the NHL at this point. He was an All-Star in 2021-22 because he was so good. That is why the Hawks would probably want a prospect back in addition to the second overall pick.

They would only get a mid-tier guy in a deal like this but someone who could certainly play in the NHL soon. Kevin Bahl was acquired by New Jersey from the Arizona Coyotes in the Taylor Hall trade and now he looks like a decent defensive defenseman.

The Hawks would love to add a young kid like that in addition to such a significant draft pick. As mentioned before, this is a blockbuster type of deal that gets the Hawks into the first round. Losing DeBrincat would be tough but they are rebuilding and won’t be good for most of his prime.
