The right guard position for the Bears is the most concerning position. This starting spot could go to a multitude of players. However, I’m going to predict that Ja’Tyre Carter is going to win the spot. Carter was a 7th round pick this year out of Southern University.

Obviously, 7th rounders rarely get an opportunity to start, but the right guard spot is wide open in Chicago. Carter is a powerful, low to the ground player with very strong hands at the point of attack. He showed this often at the Reese’s Senior Bowl, often winning reps against players who were drafted ahead of him.

The Right Guard is completely up for grabs, but Ja’Tyre Carter might have too much potential to overlook.

At the moment the Bears depth chart has Dakota Dozier listed as the starter. There is a possibility that Dozier can win the job, but his play has seemed to decline his last few seasons in Minnesota and has had trouble staying healthy. Mustipher is also an option to slide into the guard spot, but I see him as the swing interior lineman, who will fill in at center or either guard position if someone goes down to injury.

That leaves later round draft picks Zachary Thomas, Doug Kramer and current backups Willie Wright and Dieter Eiselen. Obviously, any of these guys could also be the starter week one, but in my mind, Carter is the readiest to start out of the young guys, and the Bears are looking for possible franchise lineman, not placeholders.

Now that leaves the right tackle position. This position is not as complicated as the right guard spot, but there is still a few names to be aware of.

My pick is Larry Borom. Borom was the Bears fifth round draft pick in the 2021 draft. In his rookie season, he started eight games. Like all rookies do early, he struggled a little in the passing game, giving up some pressures.

However, he has the potential to be the Bears starter for years to come, and I don’t see the Bears handing the right tackle spot over to a different player until they give Borom another shot.

Borom was given his chance last season and was serviceable. It is unlikely that they make a switch this early.

The other possible tackles competing for the job are rookies Zachary Thomas and Braxton Jones. Zachary Thomas has been in the conversation for the right guard spot but played tackle at San Diego State. He looks like a quick lengthy player, but I see him as a multiple position backup for this team, at least initially.

Braxton Jones was also a tackle in college, playing for Southern Utah. Jones looks like a very raw prospect, but I could see him improve as a relief player in the Bears system for a year or two and then get his shot.

I think the Bears have done a nice job this offseason acquiring young players, I just don’t see any of them taking the right tackle spot from Borom day one.
