The Chicago Bears could use some help in the defensive line department.

3. Brandon Williams

The Bears’ defensive line situation is quite similar to that of the offensive line. There are a lot of young promising players but a lack of depth and experience. Brandon Williams would put an end to that. With 114 starts and a Pro Bowl selection already under his belt, Williams has a lot to offer to this new Eberflus defense.

At 33 years old, Williams’s best days are likely behind him. With that being said, he still started 13 games for the Baltimore Ravens last season, contributing 35 tackles, 3 pass deflections, and 4 tackles for loss.

According to the depth chart, the two starters are Khyiris Tonga and the new acquisition Justin Jones. Neither has had any experience in a starting role for any team. Both were in a rotation for their respective teams.

My guess is it is Williams’ age that has teams not jumping to sign him. However, I see this signing as a no-loss situation for the Bears. An experienced and cheap option who will be able to compete for starting reps and mentor the young defensive line seems like a perfect situation.

The Bears are almost definitely in a rebuilding year and nothing is more helpful in a rebuild than older veterans who can show young players how to do it.
