Darnell Mooney and Velus Jones Jr. will be the starting wide receivers for the Chicago Bears

This is a bit of a bold prediction, but Darnell Mooney and Velus Jones Jr. will end the season as the team’s leading receivers. Many believe that Byron Pringle will end up being the no. 2 guy, however the capital spent on Jones speaks volumes.

Listening to Poles and Eberflus gush over Jones’ skill set should tell you all you need to know. They love this guy. There are big plans for him within this offense. Pringle is more of a slot receiver, whereas Jones is going to be moved around and used in a lot of ways.

Of course, Mooney is the de facto number one guy. While the national media doesn’t want to give him credit as a true number one, and some don’t even believe he’s one of the better WR2s in the league, Mooney’s breakout is coming.

Last year, Mooney built a solid foundation with Fields, and you could tell the two formed a bond. Fields loves throwing the deep ball. He’s familiar with Mooney. This is a match that’s going to work out well, whether or not the talking heads agree.

Between Mooney and Jones, a realistic expectation would be to see the two of them combine for 140-150 receptions and roughly 1,800-2,000 yards. If they can do that in their first season as a duo, Bears fans would have to feel good about it.
