The Chicago Cubs should have traded their star catcher during the offseason.

Willson Contreras is a very good player. He helped the Chicago Cubs win the World Series in 2016 and it was their first time doing that in 108 years. He will forever be one of the legends that helped end the curse.

It seems like Contreras wants to remain a Cub for life but it doesn’t seem that the organization feels the same way. If they don’t value him for what he’s worth, they should trade him. If they knew they weren’t going to end up keeping him beyond 2022, they should have traded him during the offseason.

It is honestly bad asset management if they don’t want to keep him. If they don’t want to have an outspoken catcher on the wrong side of 30 signed to a long-term deal, it isn’t necessarily a bad decision but plenty of teams around the league would take him and pay big for him.

His value decreases with each passing day. His numbers aren’t worthy of a max type of deal but he will make a lot of money with his next contract. He seems to think that he is more valuable than how the Cubs see him.

He tries his hardest in every single game which is inspiring but that isn’t enough for him. The Cubs aren’t going to be good while he is there anyway so it would be better to see him somewhere else anyway.

Knowing that we would get to see this guy compete in the playoffs would be much better than seeing him play on this dead team for the next five years. In the case of all these guys, they should have already been traded but all Cubs fans can hope for is the best for their team with whatever happens in the future.
