1B/DH. Chicago Cubs. Frank Schwindel. 18. player. 9.

Frank Schwindel’s value to the Chicago Cubs decreases as each day passes.

Frank Schwindel is in a similar situation as Patrick Wisdom. The only difference is that Schwindel is off to a dreadful start to his 2022 season. He has been so bad that his OPS is worse than Nick Madrigal who is a slap hitter that hasn’t even been good at that this season.

Schwindel roared onto the scene in 2021 after taking Anthony Rizzo’s spot at first base and in the batting lineup. The sample size was small as it was pretty much from the trade deadline until the end of the season when he was dominating.

Like Wisdom, Schwindel was a 29/30-year-old rookie that was playing the best baseball that he had ever played. It felt unsustainable but the Cubs failed to realize that he was a former minor league lifer that took forever to reach the majors.

They absolutely should have traded him in the offseason. He should have been traded even more than Wisdom because of the fact that his sample size was smaller and he was extremely hot there at the end.

They might have been able to get something good for him from a contending team that needed a depth bat or first baseman. Now, chances are that they will get nothing for him after this dreadful start. The Cubs can only hope that he turns it around.
