The Chicago Bulls could sign free agent forward Bobby Portis

Many Bulls fans are in the camp that says Bobby Portis should still be in black and red, and never should have been traded. Three years ago, the Bulls dealt Portis and Jabari Parker to the Washington Wizards for Otto Porter Jr., which was a trade they ultimately lost big time.

All Portis has done now, for the past two years, is torment the Bulls as part of the reigning champion Milwaukee Bucks. Portis’ game has taken such a leap over the past three seasons, and especially this year. He’s become one of the most well-rounded forwards in the game, and now looks like a sure fire starter in this league.

Portis’ role in Chicago might change from his current role in Milwaukee, though. If Chicago continues to start Patrick Williams, Portis would be the first guy off the bench. He would be exactly what this bench  unit needs, too, bringing the energy and some shooting. But, he still has the ability to play well in the post, rebound and defend.

What the Bulls lost in Portis, they still have not found. The Bulls have tried to fill the backup big man role with guys like Tony Bradley and Tristan Thompson, but neither of those guys have done anything to help Chicago. The Bulls need energy and scoring off the bench, and that’s exactly what Portis would provide. The only question is, would the Bulls pay up for a bench player? Or, would he take Williams’ starting position?
