The Chicago Bears could sign free agent offensive lineman Nate Herbig

Just yesterday, the Philadelphia Eagles officially released a 23-year-old guard who had started 17 games for the team over the past two seasons. Interior offensive lineman Nate Herbig now searches for his new home at a very young age, having some excellent experience under his belt.

The Eagles are loaded on the interior of their line, with guys like newly-drafted Cam Jurgens, and veterans Landon Dickerson, Jack Anderson, Sua Opeta, Isaac Seumalo and Jack Driscoll. This feels more like a move where the Eagles tried to do the right thing for Herbig, so that he could go elsewhere and start. One of the biggest names in Philadelphia Eagles reporting seems to think the team made a mistake, which could be a benefit for Chicago.

Last season, Herbig earned an overall Pro Football Focus grade of 68.1 — and for those who don’t know, that’s an above average grade for PFF. During the 2020 season, Herbig started 12 games for the Eagles and earned the fourth-best grade amongst the entire Philadelphia roster at 71.2

Herbig is a guy who simply does things the right way and will not be the reason why his team loses games. If the Bears can bring in an above average starter, at this point in the offseason, then that’s a huge win for this new regime.
