Pro comparison for Chicago Bears draft pick Kyler Gordon: Cornerback Jaylon Johnson
The Bears obviously needed to find a running mate for starting cornerback Jaylon Johnson, and funny enough, Gordon has a lot of similarities to Johnson. Johnson came out of Utah as a guy who was big on playing with pride. He did not like giving up big plays or touchdowns.
Gordon plays with the same type of mentality. He’s physical, like Johnson. The great part of this comparison is that Gordon is even more athletic than Johnson. He is essentially a more athletic version of Johnson, giving the Bears a pair of physical corners on the outside.
Like Johnson, Gordon plays the ball very well in the air, too. But, Gordon exceeded Johnson’s vertical jump by three inches at the Combine — 39.5 versus 36.5. Johnson’s vertical was the fifth-highest amongst defensive backs in 2020. That should give you an idea of just how much of a freak athlete Gordon is.
Gordon has enough speed, running a 4.52 in his 40-yard dash. Again, this is similar to Johnson who ran a 4.5 as well. Both of them play quicker rather than fast, possessing good footwork to stay with routes down field.
