Yet again, the Bears make a selection that isn’t a wide receiver. Fans are turning more to frustration than surprise at this point. But, Maryland safety Nick Cross is the best player on the board here, and thus Poles brings him in.

The Bears re-signed DeAndre Houston-Carson and also signed free agent safety Dame Cruikshank, but neither one of those guys seem like a sure thing to start next to Eddie Jackson. In Cross, the Bears get a starter.

Cross stands six feet, 212 pounds and is every bit of a freak athlete. He ran his 40 in a blazing 4.34 second while accompanying that with a 37-inch vertical and 130-inch broad jump. This is the type of player Eberflus would love to have in his secondary.

Not only is Cross an athlete, he looks to finish plays. He plays downhill and looks to lay the wood on opposing ball carriers. His presence would compliment Jackson, who is more a guy that likes to go after the football in the air, playing free.

Last year, Cross totaled 66 tackles including 3.5 for a loss, 3.0 sacks and came up with three interceptions.
