Round 5 – Pick 148 – Justyn Ross – WR

The Chicago Bears should consider taking multiple wide receivers in the Draft.

The Chicago Bears don’t have a fourth-round pick. They traded it to the New York Giants (along with their 2022 first-round pick) in the trade that allowed them to move up in 2021 and select Justin Fields.

As a result, they will move from their third-round selection right to their fifth-round selection unless there is a trade between now and then. Their first of two fifth-round picks is 148 which was acquired from the Houston Texans in the Anthony Miller trade.

One thing Ryan Pace was good at during his overall bad tenure with the Chicago Bears was finding productive players in the latter part of the draft.

Ryan Poles will try to duplicate that while being much better in the other areas of being a general manager. One place to start might be with Justyn Ross. He is a wide receiver out of Clemson University where he had a lot happen to him as a person.

Ross has a congenital fusion in his spine. He was told that football might not be an option for him but he had surgery that allowed him to return to the field. Before this issue became known to him, he dominated on the field with Clemson.

He was huge for them when they won it all in 2019 in wins over Notre Dame and Alabama in the College Football Playoff. He was also a part of the team that lost the National Championship to LSU in 2020 but he didn’t play the entire season because of his surgery.

If it weren’t for his condition, he probably would have been a first-round level talent. Because of everything that he has gone through with his medical condition, teams are going to be reluctant to take him. If he is there for the Bears in the fifth round, they should consider him. He could be very good for them (or whoever drafts him) one day soon if he is healthy.
