It has been just over a week and Seiya Suzuki of the Chicago Cubs is already receiving honors from Major League Baseball. His first career MLB season is off to a tremendous start as he has been named the National League Player of the Week for last week.

he had three home runs, 5 RBIs, and a 1.059 OPS. It was a truly tremendous week for his first-ever in the big leagues. The Chicago Cubs are off to a nice 5-4 start thanks to his brilliance on the field.

They are hoping that he continues to play well and help the team win in a year that started with mixed expectations. His offensive ceiling is what makes the Cubs believe that they have a chance to be a Wild Card-level team in the National League.

Jose Ramirez of the Cleveland Guardians was the recipient of the American League Player of the Week Award. He is a top ten hitter in baseball right now so seeing Suzuki in that type of company so early is truly great.

The Chicago Cubs and Seiya Suzuki are hoping that the good play continues.

Suzuki and the Cubs are getting ready to have a series with the Tampa Bay Rays who are a very good team. They are coming off a tough series loss (2-1) to the Chicago White Sox. As a road team, they have the advantage of not doing any traveling as a result of them playing the two Chicago teams in back-to-back series so the Cubs need to be ready.

If Seiya Suzuki can continue to hit like that for the majority of the 2022 season, he will be a leading candidate for the National League Rookie of the Year. He might not have an OPS like that all season long because then we’d be talking about an MVP but the sky is the limit for this guy.

His approach is what makes him so dangerous. He very rarely swings at junk. His walk rate is outstanding for a player who displays so much power. He either hurts you with his bat or walks because he doesn’t swing at bad pitches.

Therefore, he is extremely difficult to pitch to which is an advantage for the Cubs. It is only a matter of time before he hits in the top half of the lineup on a regular basis. Batting fourth against the Rays on Monday is a step in the right direction. As mentioned before, this won’t be the last time that Seiya earns an honor like this.
