The Chicago Bears should target cornerback Martin Emerson in the third round

The Bears still need another starting cornerback opposite Jaylon Johnson. Tavon Young was recently signed to play the slot, so their focus on corner should primarily be on the outside. In Martin Emerson, the Bears would get that starter.

Emerson stands 6-foot-2 and offers that nice size to have on the outside. He is a very long corner who is well-versed in press coverage. But, he would especially excel in a zone coverage because of his ability to keep receivers in front of him.

One thing the Bears need in their secondary is someone who is unafraid to come up and make tackles. Whether it’s in run support or the underneath routes, Emerson is quick enough to make those fast decisions and wrap up.

Ball production wasn’t his strong suit in college as he’s only tallied one interception for Mississippi State. But, all of the physical traits and film suggest he will be a fine corner in the NFL.
