How the Chicago Bulls can upset the Milwaukee Bucks in Game 1
By Ryan Heckman
3. The Chicago Bulls have to be defense-focused, first and foremost
In the Bulls’ first matchup with the Bucks during the regular season, they held Milwaukee to 38.6 percent shooting and lost by a score of 94-90. It was close, but the Bulls’ lack of offense also showed on that night.
This Bucks team is a dangerous one, and the Bulls may have to get creative and aggressive with their defensive lineups. Again, Vucevic might not survive very long in this one and should be replaced by someone like Derrick Jones Jr. or Javonte Green at times, if Billy Donovan wants more aggression on defense.
The Bucks have a lot of three-point shooters, so switching is going to be key for the Bulls. They have to be quick, relentless and smart with their switching. Not only do they need to keep the perimeter locked down, but of course the post is where Giannis is going to do his damage — and again, this is where Vucevic could get bullied.
If the Bulls are aggressive on defense and can start fast, forcing turnovers and putting the clamps on the Bucks, then they have a shot to establish some momentum. Focusing on defense, first and foremost, is going to be the key to winning this game. The Bulls were always much better when they were forcing turnovers and running back the other way. This has to be one of those games.
