2. Zach LaVine must be the catalyst for the Chicago Bulls’ offense

Recently, we heard Zach LaVine talk about how he is prepared for anything. He’s got the attitude of a leader. He’s not ready to back down from anyone. Though he’s never been to the playoffs, LaVine is saying all of the right things.

But, words must become action on Sunday. LaVine has no other choice than to be “the guy” for this Bulls offense. If LaVine is able to take over the game, it’s going to alleviate a ton of pressure on DeMar DeRozan, who has carried the Bulls’ offense more times than not this year.

For LaVine to be a primary ball handler at the top of the key is going to allow him to isolate when he wants to, get to the hoop, or kick out and find an open guy like a cutting DeRozan. The Bulls began their downfall when DeRozan was getting double-teamed at the top of the key every possession. Teams figured it out and made it look easy. The offense staggered.

If LaVine becomes that guy directing the offense, DeRozan’s job becomes easier and thus the offense can flourish a little more.

But, more than anything, this first game has to be one where LaVine establishes himself. He has to come out and let the Bucks know that this is not going to be easy, and he’s locked in, ready to drop 40 if he has to.
