Chicago Bears trade a surprise player in this 2022 mock draft
By Ryan Heckman
Immediately after drafting West, the Bears stay right there up front and go with Kentucky center Luke Fortner. Of course, with West and Fortner, the Bears now have the ultimate flexibility inside at guard and center.
Fortner stands 6-foot-6 and weighs 300 pounds. He has tremendous length, which is one of his best attributes overall. He is a tough one to get around if he gets his hands on you.
Coming out of college, Fortner is a well-respected leader. He is someone the Bears will love having in the locker room and he should develop into a leader very quickly among this group. The skills he has to lead a group of men, like his fellow linemen, is superior to the good majority of the rest of linemen in this draft class.
Fortner is not only high character, but he is highly intelligent. Like West, he’s a smart player and knows what he’s doing when it comes to making calls and adjustments on the fly.
Both Fortner and West now give the Bears a ton of options up front and allow this offense to put them in the best position to succeed. Whether it’s guard or center, the Bears have the luxury of being able to place them at either one.
