Chicago Bears trade a surprise player in this 2022 mock draft
By Ryan Heckman
Later in Round 2, the Bears pull off yet another trade. This time, it’s with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bears send Tampa their no. 48 selection, along with pick 186 in the sixth round. In return, Chicago moves back to pick no. 60 and also acquires picks no. 91 and 133, giving Poles some incredible, deep picks in the top 150.
With that selection at no. 60, the Bears take Washington State offensive tackle Abraham Lucas to come in and start opposite left tackle Teven Jenkins. As a pro, Lucas projects well in a scheme like the Bears because he is an athletic and quick guy for his size.
Lucas stands a towering 6-foot-7 and weighs a little lighter at 319 pounds. But, for his height, he is able to space out and hang with the quicker pass rushers which is going to be key when he’s trying to protect a young quarterback like Fields.
With excellent core strength and a background as a basketball player, Lucas offers a unique physical frame. The base of a great NFL tackle is absolutely there.
He is definitely better in pass protection than he is in the run game, but Lucas can improve that by improving his leverage and punch. The positives with Lucas certainly outweigh the negatives, and he should give the Bears their second starting tackle right away next to Teven Jenkins.
