Chicago Bears trade a surprise player in this 2022 mock draft
By Ryan Heckman
With their last pick in the draft — and it’s hard to believe, coming in the fourth round — the Bears go offense, selecting Tulsa wide receiver Josh Johnson.
At 5-foot-11 and 176 pounds, Johnson comes to the Bears as primarily a slot receiver. This is a pick which could pan out a year or two down the road after Pringle’s days in Chicago are done, but Johnson definitely deserves a little playing time as a rookie.
Johnson brings some refined traits to the Bears as a slot receiver. The first is that he’s very quick off the line of scrimmage. His first step is sudden, and he continues that quick-twitch as he breaks.
His ability to create separation is noticeable, and Johnson is great at using that separation to find the hole in coverage, turn around and sit for his quarterback to find him.
Last season at Tulsa, Johnson caught 83 passes for 1,114 yards and six touchdowns. His quarterback play has been shoddy at best, therefore getting a guy like Fields should be great for his development.
The Bears’ receiving room now includes Mooney, Pickens, Pringle, Johnson, Dazz Newsome and Equanimeous St. Brown. Fans should feel much more confident now than they did prior to the draft, that’s for sure.
