The Chicago Bears could reach for offensive tackle Zach Tom in Round 2

Back to the offensive side of the football, and this time we head right up front. The Bears’ offensive line is a work in progress right now. Teven Jenkins figures to start, along with Cody Whitehair and Lucas Patrick. The biggest question, right now, is whether or not Larry Borom could end up being the other starting tackle.

Right now, the feeling is as though Borom fits better as a backup and that the Bears should find an upgrade. One of those possibilities is Wake Forest tackle Zach Tom, who is currently being mocked sometimes in the late second and mostly the third round.

Tom stands 6-foot-5 and weighs a little light at 295 pounds. He could afford to put on some weight, but his current stature does allow him some additional athleticism. Tom moves well laterally and is able to handle those quicker pass rushers, which is crucial in today’s NFL.

He’s a smart football player with three years of starting experience, and rarely injured. All three of those characteristics are highly important when scouting offensive linemen. Tom would come as an upgrade to Borom, no doubt, and would offer the Bears another solid starter up front.
