The Chicago Bears could reach for cornerback Derion Kendrick in Round 2

Cornerback is surely an area where the Bears need help, and they recently signed former Baltimore Ravens cornerback Tavon Young to come in and be their starting slot. But, with Young’s history of health concerns, the Bears need to have some depth there.

One of the more flexible corners in this draft is Georgia’s Derion Kendrick, who has experience playing in different areas and is scheme-versatile. Now, Kendrick is probably best suited as a slot corner. So, the Bears would have to be truly convicted if they were to reach for him. At the moment, Kendrick is more of a Round 3 guy.

Kendrick is six feet, 190 pounds and offers good size for the position. He plays strong, but he also plays smooth. As a former wide receiver, Kendrick is able to recognize routes well, thus enabling him to cut them off.

Also, because he’s a former receiver, Kendrick comes with soft hands and is great at taking the ball away. Above all else, the Bears need ball hawks on this defense, which it has lacked for a couple of seasons now. Kendrick’s red flags come due to legal trouble he found himself in last year, but the charges were later dismissed. Should the Bears see a guy who has matured, Kendrick might be worth snagging with their second pick in the round, if not later on should they trade back.
