Why should the Chicago Bears worry about Jahan Dotson?

Next up, the Bears could opt to draft Jahan Dotson out of Penn State. Dotson presents a whole lot to like at the receiver position. He is extremely shifty with the ball in his hands. He also has the ability to change speeds on a dime, and at his top play speed, he could beat just about anybody in a foot race.

While Dotson is great at those shorter routes and with the ball in his hands, it’s the other routes that can get a little sloppy on his part. For a guy with quick footwork, Dotson can tend to be a little lazy in his breaks on more intermediate or deeper routes, which allows defensive backs to undercut him.

Also, for a guy who is compared to Emmanuel Sanders, Dotson doesn’t always appreciate working between the hashes. A receiver with Dotson’s skill set, to be able to run those short routes very well, should be more comfortable working in the slot and the middle of the field.

Lastly, Dotson is not as physical as you would like to see him be. At the pro level, he’ll get easily tackled in the open field if someone gets a hand on him and he doesn’t fight to break those too often. His physicality needs improvement, all around.
