Why should the Chicago Bears worry about Jalen Tolbert?

One of the receivers the Bears could end up with towards the latter half of the second round is South Alabama’s Jalen Tolbert, and he’d be a good pick. Tolbert stands 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds, and he has a little bit of everything at the position. His collegiate production is excellent. Tolbert has the makings of a fine no. 2 option in the NFL.

However, beyond the nice combination of speed and size, Tolbert does have some worries about his game.

First of all, Tolbert could afford to do a much better job fighting for catches when they don’t come easy. If it’s not a natural catch for him, Tolbert has a tendency to struggle. He doesn’t always choose to work hard enough to come up with those 50/50 balls. If a cornerback is going to be touching the football, or coming close to it, Tolbert doesn’t always fight for himself.

The other aspect of his game that some don’t always look at is in blocking. Tolbert doesn’t finish his blocks every time, and thus it’s fair to say that he should be able to put forth a bit more effort on each snap. That, in itself, is one of his biggest criticisms: Tolbert needs to put a bit more passion in his play.
