57. Scouting Report. South Alabama. player. WR. Jalen Tolbert . 3. Pick Analysis

With their very next pick, the Bears again go with an offensive playmaker for Justin Fields. This time, it’s another smaller school prospect in South Alabama’s Jalen Tolbert.

The Bears now have options with where they can line different guys up, and that’s a great luxury to have. Already having signed Byron Pringle to be their slot and having Darnell Mooney who could quite honestly play either spot, the Bears are adding significant depth and talent here.

Tolbert is a 6-foot-3 wideout who has a great combination of both size and speed, allowing him to play wherever needed. The strength aspect of his game is highly noticeable, too, as he could end up becoming one of those lethal run-after-catch types.

Having strong separation skills, Tolbert simply needs to show that he can run a variety of routes. He was so naturally-gifted in college that, at times, the route tree didn’t look too expansive. However, no one really doubts his ability to become a good route runner as a pro.

Over the last two seasons, Tolbert has gone past the 1,000-yard mark and caught eight touchdowns in each campaign. He also finished his career with an average of 17.6 yards per reception. This is a big-play guy, and the Bears should be very confident about adding him to the fold.
