Chicago Bears trade David Montgomery in this 2022 mock draft
By Ryan Heckman
Before we get into the Bears’ first pick at no. 48, let’s examine what they did with their selection at 39. For the sake of grabbing another top-100 pick, Ryan Poles partners with the Kansas City Chiefs who now have plenty of draft capital, thanks to the Tyreek Hill trade. In this deal, the Bears get picks 50 and 94 from the Chiefs in exchange for no. 39.
With pick no. 48, the Bears should feel fortunate to end up with one of the draft’s best all-around linebackers in Wisconsin’s Leo Chenal. He had always been a Day 2 guy, but with the way he blew up the Combine, Chenal solidified his spot as a second-round pick.
At 6-foot-3, weighing 250 pounds, Chenal ran a 4.53 in his 40-yard dash. He also put up an incredible 40.5-inch vertical. This is an athletic freak with a motor that never stops, and someone Eberflus would love pairing next to Roquan Smith.
Last year, Chenal led the Badgers defense tallying a whopping 115 tackles in 11 games, with 18.5 for a loss and 8.0 sacks.
If Roquan is going to play on the weak side, then Chenal would be the perfect fit at middle linebacker here. His combination of speed, strength and overall relentlessness would make him possibly the next great Bears linebacker.
