Kyle Hendricks is going to make the Opening Day start for the Chicago Cubs.

The Chicago Cubs will have Kyle Hendricks on the mound to open their season again. It is going to be the third Opening Day start of his career. There really isn’t anybody on the Chicago Cubs pitching staff that deserves this honor more than him. He has been so good with them for so long.

Marcus Stroman might prove to be the best pitcher on the staff this year but that doesn’t mean he is the rightful Opening Day starter. That absolutely belongs to Hendricks as nobody deserves to set the tone of the season more.

Hendricks is going to face a very good Milwaukee Brewers pitching staff at Wrigley Field to begin what will be a long year of great matches against one another. Milwaukee has stars up and down the lineup that hopes to carry them into the postseason as division champions.

Stroman, Justin Steele, Drew Smyly, Alex Mills, and Keegan Thompson will all make starts while the Cubs wait for Wade Miley and Adbert Alzolay to return. There are some good pitchers there but a few of them have some things to work on before we fully trust them to do well.

This Cubs team will be led by Hendricks in a lot of ways. He is one of the few players left on the team that won the World Series in 2016. This team has a chance to prove a lot of people wrong with this lineup but a lot of things certainly need to go right.
